A Record Month for the Safe Schools Program!

In February, the Safe Schools Program of PFLAG NYC put on programs for 1,200 students in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan. It was a record for a single month.

The Safe Schools Program fights homophobia and fosters respect for diversity in schools. PFLAG NYC’s volunteer speakers are the heart of the program. Speaking to groups of high school or middle school students, they share their personal and family stories. These talks open a dialogue with the young people that helps dispel fear and ignorance. Often the program is the first time that students have heard a respectful conversation about gay people, or heard a parent express love and pride in having a child who is LGBT. Read more »

On January 27, PFLAG NYC joins with Ma’yan, the JCC in Manhattan, Gender Spectrum, Scenarios USA, Keshet, and Congregation Beth Simhat Torah for an evening of exploration of gender, with a focus on gender non-conforming youth, through the films of The Youth and Gender Media Project and Scenarios USA.
