PFLAG NYC Co-Sponsors Film "Out in the Silence" in Human Rights Watch Film Festival at Lincoln Center from June 21 to 23

See a Preview and Hear About the Making of the Film at PFLAG NYC Meeting on June 13 in Midtown

The Human Rights Watch Film Festival runs from June 10 to 24 at the Film Society of Lincoln Center. PFLAG NYC is proud to join Human Rights Watch as a co-sponsor of "Out in the Silence," an astounding documentary about the struggle for equality and respect in small-town Pennsylvania. Integral to the story is the struggle of one young gay teenager and his mother to make a safe place for him in the local high school.

At the PFLAG NYC meeting on Sunday, June 13, Nels Bangerter, editor of "Out in the Silence", will share preview clips and talk about the making of the film. Join us at the meeting at 3 p.m. at the Community House of St. Bartholomew's Church, 325 Park Ave., Manhattan. Full meeting details are here.

"Out in the Silence" dramatically illustrates the challenges of negotiating the morally charged issue of sexual orientation and the potential for building bridges when people with differing opinions approach each other with openness and respect. Focused on events in Oil City, Pennsylvania, the film goes deeply into the topic of LGBT youth in schools.
