Please join us at the PFLAG NYC Awards Dinner on Monday, October 10, as we celebrate the many ways in which families and allies are creating a more accepting, more equal world for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people. Tickets are available now.
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Sandra Lee of the Food Network and Semi-Homemade Magazine will be recognized as family allies for marriage equality. Both spoke out passionately about their gay relatives and why marriage equality was important to their families. PFLAG has long held that sharing our families' own stories of having LGBT loved ones is the most powerful way we have to increase understanding and fight for full equality for all our family members.
We also recognize the contribution made to understanding transgender youth in New York City made by the film Gun Hill Road and will honor its writer/director Rashaad Ernesto Green and stars Judy Reyes, Esai Morales, and Harmony Santana.
Another way families are making a difference is though the Safe Schools Program of PFLAG NYC. Our PFLAG family speakers are sharing their stories of having an LGBT loved one in schools throughout the city and helping fight misunderstanding and harassment. We are changing the climate for LGBT and straight students alike. With your support at the PFLAG NYC Awards Dinner, this program will continue growing so that we can help more LGBT students not just survive, but thrive.
Other special guests at the PFLAG NYC Awards Dinner will include Thomas Roberts of MSNBC as Master of Ceremonies. The VIP Cocktail Reception will be hosted by Rory O'Malley and Nikki M. James, Tony-nominated stars of "The Book of Mormon."
