Every one of PFLAG NYC's support groups is open to all and provides help whether your concerns focus on lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender people and issues, but parents of transgender children often want to discuss their issues with parents who've been through the same things as themselves. PFLAG NYC provides a regular gathering for parents, family and friends of people who are transgender or gender non-conforming.
Other Resources
Be sure to see answers to common questions about transgender people.
The TransParents Project began several years ago with three couples gathered around a dinner table to discuss their transgender children. Now a much larger group, with members from New York City and surrounding areas, the TransParent Project is run by PFLAG NYC in conjunction with the JCC Manhattan. No matter when your child disclosed his/her gender identity issues, or what stage of transition he/she is in, join with others at the TransParents Project to meet understanding friends, share important information, and to get (and provide) support as we all travel this special road together.
The TransParents Project currently meets every other month on the fourth Sunday of the odd-numbered months, but group members are in touch with one another between meetings and many also attend other PFLAG NYC support group meetings as well. For questions about the group, please contact group moderator Judy Sennesh through PFLAG NYC at transgender@pflagnyc.org.
