Learn more about the presenters and the programs they’re representing:

Gloria Soto (she/her) is the Program Manager for CAMBA’s LGBTQ+ Education and Acceptance Project (Project LEAP), where for the past three years she has worked to promote family and community acceptance of LGBTQ+ people. Before LEAP, she worked for one of the largest and most comprehensive programs providing housing and services to homeless youth in NYC, witnessing the impact of family rejection firsthand. Gloria is a cisgender Puerto Rican woman who identifies as a lesbian and currently lives in Brooklyn.

Project LEAP is dedicated to fostering education and acceptance of LGBTQ+ youth. It was born from the knowledge that all children deserve to be loved by their families and communities and that families deserve resources and education as they learn how to support their children. Knowing that youth who are Black and Latinx are particularly at risk for familial rejection, Project LEAP’s services target parents from these communities by providing bilingual, culturally sensitive education.

Deeangelys Colon (she/her) is the Program Coordinator at the Gerald J. Friedman Transgender Program at Lenox Hill Hospital, where she is responsible for patient contact, navigation, and outreach. She has worked with transgender and LGBTQ+ clients for twenty-five years, has been a speaker on transgender health and advocacy at multiple conferences and forums, and is a co-author of the transgender resources chapter for the book, “Transgender Medicine, A Multidisciplinary Approach.”

The Gerald J. Friedman Transgender Health & Wellness Program offers comprehensive medical services for the transgender and gender nonconforming community in a safe, nonjudgmental environment. Their clinicians and staff provide primary care and hormone replacement therapy for pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients in need of services, while encouraging an ongoing relationship between patients and providers to address health and wellness needs.
