ABOUT OUR SPEAKER: Alexes Hazen MD, FACS

Alexes Hazen MD, FACS is a Clinical Associate Professor at the Hansjorg Wyss Department of Plastic Surgery at NYU Langone Medical Center. Dr. Hazen attended Brown University as an undergraduate, then spent two years in the United States Peace Corps as a volunteer in Honduras in the Health Sector. She attended Brown University School of Medicine and did her residency at NYU Langone Health in the combined General Surgery/Plastic Surgery Program. In 2002 she began as an Attending at Bellevue and NYU hospitals, and then served as the Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery at the Manhattan Veterans Affairs Hospital until 2011. She was the Director of the NYU Aesthetic Surgery Center from 2002 until 2018.
Dr. Hazen has worked with the transgender community for over 15 years and has been both a surgeon for the community as well as an advocate – working with local organizations and insurance companies to promote transgender wellness and care.
She is the Vice-Chair of the NYU IRB Board and has served since 2003. She was part of the Face Transplant Team at NYU, and she was the Director of the NYU Aesthetic Surgery Center from 2002 until 2018. In 2018 Dr. Hazen went into private practice and began focusing more on gender-affirming surgery and hair restoration.

She is on numerous medical committees, advisory boards, and editorial boards. She served on the Board of myFace for children with craniofacial differences, AIRS for breast reconstruction, and ABHAYA wellness in the Brooklyn community, and is on the Allergan Advisory Board. She is on the governing Board of Women for Women by IPRAS and has directed and participated on numerous medical missions to help women and children who are victims of violence.

Her clinical interests lie in breast surgery, facial reconstruction, gender-affirming surgery, and aesthetic surgery including fat grafting, non-invasive aesthetic techniques, and hair transplant and restoration. Her research interests are in virtual surgery and resident education, fat grafting and stem cell research, PRP, and quality of life following transgender surgery as well as techniques. She has numerous book chapters, and peer-review articles, publications, and presentations. She has a holistic approach to plastic surgery, anti-aging, and wellness and is interested in helping patients transform both body and soul through the latest technology and innovation.
