Black Family Circle

Black Family Circle is PFLAG NYC’s group dedicated to families and individuals who identify as Black and who have lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) loved ones. It provides a warm and inviting space to gather virtually and find community. This group provides family-to-family support with a focus on the intersection of accepting an LGBTQ+ or same-gender loving (SLG) child and one’s experience as a member of the Black community. While the experiences of being Black in America vary tremendously, there are shared cultural factors that play a role in supporting a family’s well-being, resiliency, and understanding when a loved one comes out as LGBTQ+. Come into the Circle with us! Black Family Circle meets online on the fourth Sunday of every month from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. ET. For more information and to register, please click here.

Happy Black History Month! PFLAG NYC knows that this community is left behind or denied adequate and quality access to services, treatment, and resources that meet their needs. Counseling is at the top of the list as we deal with perpetual trauma and fear, especially the most recent horrific killing of Tyrie Nichols and Keenan Anderson, the cousin of Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullers. Let’s get together and discuss fear, safety, and your ideas for resources for the circle.   Black Family Circle is PFLAG NYC’s group dedicated to families and individuals who identify as Black and who have lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) loved ones. It provides a warm and inviting space to gather virtually and find community. In celebration of Women’s Month, this month's gathering will be devoted to honoring Black women, Black mothers, and other Black women who are a part of the journey of supporting, accepting, and understanding LGTBQ+ folx. Protecting them as lions protect their cubs. Blessing them with life skills so they’re empowered to craft their own path. Providing them with love in the hope that they will live their truth unapologetically in a society that does not respect their humanity. So let’s hold space together as a collective where we can listen, learn and share the struggles and successes of Black womanhood. Let’s honor our allyship, advocacy, and activism in support of the lives and happiness of LGBTQ+ folx.
